May 2006 - Critchill School pupils' visit to Murrhardt

Children from Critchill School have made a trip to Murrhardt, continuing a long-established exchange relationship with students from the Bodelschwinghshule. Unfortunately, children from the Institute Medico Educatif in Château-Gontier were unable to attend the occasion for the first time since 1992. The childern were able to enjoy several trips during their visit, including ascending the TV tower in Stuttgart, seeing the Horschbach waterfalls and a boat trip to the salt mines.
"The children gain enormous understanding of a different culture and their way of life during these trips", said headteacher Leslie Rousell prior to their departure. "It's my hope that they gain empathy with another way of living, come to appreciate different food, mannerisms and ways of doing things from day-to-day. I think it's important that children learn that other nationalities are nothing to be afraid of and that we should instead embrace them."

May 2006 - 4th Murrhardter Stadtlauf

FTA members Kaine & Lisa Dixon made the trip to our German twin-town to attend the 4th annual Murrhardter Stadtlauf on 27th May. A very popular family event, the afternoon scheduled several catergories of racing, including a 400m running race for children up to the age of 6, a schoolchildren's race of 2.5km, an 'everyman' race over 5km and the 10km main event.
Running for Frome A.C. (Frome Running Club), Kaine managed to finish in a time of 37.53 to make a respectable 18th place from a field of more than 130, despite heavy rain. The 10km course was a 4 lap circuit of the town centre area, and parklands. The entire event was very well supported and organised, with outstanding refreshments available and mementoes for all competitors.

May 2006 - Flying the flag for Frome, Murrhardt Messe

Two members of Frome Twinning Association, Chairman Christine Potter and Secretary Pat Oatley together with their husbands spent the weekend of 12th-15th May at MESSE MURRHARDT. This is a trade fair and exhibition sponsored by the business community and held 4 yearly in Murrhardt.
Frome had a joint stand with Stadt Murrhardt, Château-Gontier and Rötha which is the East German twin of Murrhardt. These other towns were all represented by members of their town councils.
Twinning and Tourism was the theme of Frome's display with posters and leaflets from the T.I.C., Cheese & Grain, Memorial Theatre, Merlin Theatre and Catherine Hill being exhibited. Copies of the current Frome Times were given to many of the visitors.
Also very popular at the exhibition were samples of English made Cheddar Cheese kindly donated by Mr John Billett of Dairy Crest together with Somerset Cider .
As well as promoting Frome, the weekend was an opportunity to meet with many old friends made over the years through twinning visits between the three towns. As always the hospitality we received was excellent.

March 2006 - AGM, Trinity Hall, Frome
23 members and friends attended the meeting in Trinity Hall and enjoyed a very appetising Potato Supper afterwards. There being no other candidates, the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer & Secretary were re-elected. The existing committee were happy to stand again and duly elected, with the exception of Mr. David Woolgar, who had decided to step down due to other commitments. Margaret Brulais was elected in his place, and having lived in the Château-Gontier area, will be able to bring some local knowledge to the committee.
Our thanks go to David, who was unable to attend the meeting, for his work on the committee, in particular with regard to sporting events and contacts.
